Stratford at Stripe YSTE 2026 - 2 projects, 3 awards. 5th Years win Runner Up Group Award!

What a Stripe Young Scientist and Technology 2026 experience for our two Stratford College groups competing in this year's competition! 

The whole of Stratford College and community are so, so proud of 5th Year students, Hao Wen and Ritvik, for winning one of the top four awards in this year's competition - the Runner Up Group Award. They also won the Institute of Physics Special Award. A big thank you to Dr Ryan for mentoring the 5th year students. Major congratulations to TY students Callum and Sanket for getting a Highly Commended award for their FluxChess project in a very challenging category, mentored by Ms O'Kelly. 

TY Weekly Blog: Stripe YSTE, skiing, EPIC Museum and Jeannie Johnston Tall Ship

The TYs started off with a busy first week in January, with the latest updates by Liam (TY).  On Thursday, 8th January the TY’s went to the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2026 to support Callum and Sanket in the competition. They were competing in the Intermediate/Group/Technology category with their FluxChess project. Well done on winning a Highly Commended award.

Stratford entrants getting ready for the 2026 Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in January

The countdown to the 2026 Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition is on! Our two Stratford groups - Sanket and Callum (TY); Hao Wen and Ritvik (5th Year) - are working very hard in the final weeks preparing their project report, project diary and poster. Judging starts on Wednesday 7th January and the doors open to the public on Thursday 8th January. 

1st Years enjoy a visit from the Reptile Zoo

Midlands Reptile Zoo came to visit the 1st Years for Science Week today. We met pythons, tarantulas and a baby camen crocodile!  We learnt about their habitats and how they contribute to biodiversity and even got to hold the python.   

1st Year Science students complete the Egg Drop experiment

Dr Ryan and the 1st Years were making various containers to keep a raw egg from cracking when dropped from different heights on Monday 3rd November.

Zombie Labs in the Science Lab

Friday 31st October and the 1st year and 2Y students completed their zombie lab in science  to use their scientific skills of observation, data analysis and acid/base reactions to discover which of the 6 patients were human or zombies and even discover which zombie was patient zero.

Congratulations to the two groups - Hao Wen and Ritvik in 5th Year and Callum and Sanket in TY - who have been invited to compete in this year's Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition from 7th - 10th January 2026!

New Science Club on Mondays

A new Science Club has started on Mondays in the Science Lab where we get to do some quick and exciting experiments to fidget our extra science fix.   This week students made self inflating monsters!  All are welcome and Dr. McAdoo cannot wait to see you there!!

5th Year Trip to Cancer Revolution Research Exhibition

The 5th years visited the Cancer Revolution Exhibition in St Stephen's Green to learn about the disease itself as well as the old and modern techniques in its treatment and how Irish scientists and doctors have contributed to the research. 

Two new arrivals in the Science Lab - the school goldfish

Our two new goldfish are becoming scientists and joined us in the lab this week. We will be naming them over the next week or so.
