Stratford at Stripe YSTE 2026 - 2 projects, 3 awards. 5th Years win Runner Up Group Award!

What a Stripe Young Scientist and Technology 2026 experience for our two Stratford College groups competing in this year's competition! 

The whole of Stratford College and community are so, so proud of 5th Year students, Hao Wen and Ritvik, for winning one of the top four awards in this year's competition - the Runner Up Group Award. They also won the Institute of Physics Special Award. A big thank you to Dr Ryan for mentoring the 5th year students. Major congratulations to TY students Callum and Sanket for getting a Highly Commended award for their FluxChess project in a very challenging category, mentored by Ms O'Kelly. 

School Self-Evaluation Surveys, January 2026: Teaching and Learning

As part of School Self-Evaluation on Teaching and Learning, all stakeholders are asked to give feedback through surveys sent in December-January. Teachers set Teaching and Learning goals in August 2025 & review these goals and feedback throughout the year.

1st Year Computer Studies class enter Young Environmentalist Awards with Scratch coding projects

The 1st Year Computer Studies class have been set up into 8 teams and each team registered their Young Environmentalist project plan with ECO-UNESCO in mid-December. Each team has started to create their Scratch coding project highlighting an environmental issue of their choice based on the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The list of 1st Year projects/issues are listed in this blog.

Stratford's ESB Networks' Weather Watch station goes live!

Stratford's ESB Networks' Weather Watch station went live on Monday 15th December! Thanks to Ms Skehan Stratford has it's very own weather station which students and the public can follow using the weathercloud.net app.

TYs display creative coding skills in SciFest@Schools competition

The TY students have been working on their Scratch group projects since September and on Thursday 11th December were ready to present their projects to two external judges in SciFest@School. Congratulations to Alanna, Ciara and Fionn who won 1st prize! There were many other prizes amongst TYs. 

Winter Exam Preparation: Own it

As the Winter Exams approach from 1st -5th December students, staff and households are busy preparing. Teachers are mindful of the anxiety around exams and are preparing students with Study Plans as well as some or more of the following supports such as sample questions and answers, marking schemes, exemplars of best practice for example, depending on subjects and year groups. 

Young Environmentalist Awards Kick-off for 1st Year Computer Studies students

On Wednesday 26 November, Sarah from ECO-UNESCO visited the 1st Year Computer Studies class to explain to them the steps involved in entering this year's Young Environmentalist Awards.

Stratford teachers participate in Erasmus+ TD3C research project

Researchers Dr Keith Johnston and Helena Ledermann from Trinity College Dublin/Learnovate provided the opening workshop on Thursday 6th November for the TD3C  (Teacher Digital Content Creation Competencies) Erasmus+ project which a number of teachers from Stratford College will be participating in over the coming months. 

Stratford invests in new computers throughout the school as part of Windows 11 upgrade

Over the summer of 2025 Stratford College replaced all its PC's with new Windows 11 PC's. This major investment is part of Stratford's Digital Learning Plan for teaching and learning, ICT infrastructure and planning for the future.

Five 1st Year coding projects make it to semi-finals of 2025 Young Environmentalist Awards

Stratford will be represented by five 1st year groups at the semi-finals of the 2025 Young Environmentalist Awards in Airfield Estate on Wednesday, 12th March. Each group has coded a Scratch game aimed to heighten awareness about the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  They will be presenting their projects in Eco-Dens - think Dragons Den - to a panel of judges.
