NEWS / 7 January 2026

The 1st Year Computer Studies class have been set up into 8 teams and each team registered their Young Environmentalist project plan with ECO-UNESCO in mid-December. Each team has started to create their Scratch coding project highlighting an environmental issue of their choice based on the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The list of 1st Year projects/issues are listed in this blog.

Each group will be presenting their project to Ms O'Kelly and Mr Lennon at the end of January. They will then submit their final project to YEA in early February. Soon afterwards we hope that some of these projects will be invited to present their projects at

The sustainability development issues that the 1st year groups are highlighting are as follows:

  • Ellen F, Bella, Ronan - We are making a Scratch project with 3-6 different minigames that outline the issues with the environment, such as: A recycling game, a game where you have to clean the oceans etc.
  • Leon, Ellen MT, Hannah - The aim of our project is to create awareness for food waste using a scratch project to demonstrate. This will teach teenagers to not waste food.
  • Roi, Kate, Shachar - our project is about the lack of food for people in a country and that people go out of foods for days
  • Joshua, Daniel, Abi - A game about picking up litter, that progresses as you play the game.
  • Giorgi, Liam, Yair - We are making a Scratch project with the theme of waste and recycling to encourage users to pick up litter so that they understand more about how they can reuse some materials and clean the environment along the way.
  • Izzy, Ethan, Alona - We are doing our project on pollution. We will create an interactive game to teach people about climate change and how we can help. This will be done with Scratch. Our theme is climate change and what it can do to our world. Our project will be aimed at children aged 7+.
  • Saoirse, Andrew, Calvin - Our project is a Scratch game that will teach kids how to protect and save animals, e.g. bees. Our topic is biodiversity and our game is about different ways to save different species. We wish to spread awareness about animal extinction and to hopefully teach the future generation so that they become more aware about biodiversity.
  • David, Luca, Isabel - We our making a scratch project with the theme of transport to educate users how to travel safely and sustainably so that they understand more about transport

What an incredible array of ideas! Good luck everyone!

Ms O'Kelly
