Hanukkah commemorates the historical event in Jewish history, which took place in Jerusalem in the second century. Israel had been taken over by the Greeks under King Antiochus who would not let the Jews worship their G-d and were banned from observing Judaism. Thanks to a successful revolt by a small group of Jews known as the Maccabees, the Jews reclaimed Jerusalem and the Temple. In order to celebrate the victory, the Temple needed to be repaired, and an oil lamp (Menorah) was lit in it. There was only enough oil to burn the candle for one day, but miraculously it burned for eight days. This is why the Hanukkah festival lasts for eight days and why the festival is also known as the Festival of Lights.
Students and teachers were treated to a fantastic Junior Winter Musical Concert during last class on Friday, 13th December! Singing, dancing and playing a fascinating array of musical instruments.

December 10th and 11th saw Stratford College's Drama Club play, 'Happily Never After' come to the live stage. Everyone from students to parents are buzzing with excitement and pride. Drama students are proud to be 'theatre kids' after a spectacular performance and many months of dedicated hard work.
Over the past two days the TYs have demonstrated their code, design process logs and posters to two SciFest@School judges. There were lots of prizes and the winners will go on to represent Stratford College at the SciFest@College competition next May in TU Dublin (Blanchardstown campus).

Our 3rd Years enjoyed a visit to The Custom House where they learned of stories of political scandal, rebellion and tragedy. These stories not only shaped the history of the building, but of Ireland.

Congratulations to Liam in 5th year for being listed in the Sunday Independent's 'Thirty under Thirty' list of Ireland's youngest business trailblazers on 8th December. Liam co-founded Cartshare - an app for the Shopify e-commerce platform which is a simple button which allows shoppers to buy things with friends.

The English Department celebrated some of our talented Stratford College poets on Thursday the 5th of December with the Winter Poetry Salon. Junior and Senior poets shared their poems to a supportive audience of staff and students in the English Room.
