TY Weekly: Climbing Centre, Incinerator field trip, Orwell Lodge visits, Kinia Paired Reading training and Women in STEM talk

The TYs have been really busy throughout March! Every Friday they've been going to the BLOC Climbing Centre near Tallaght, a number of students visit Orwell Lodge Nursing Home every Tuesday at lunch, a field trip to the Incinerator in Sandymount with Ms Skehan, completed a Kinia Paired Reading training morning, attended a Women in STEM talk when past-pupil Olivia Foley returned to Stratford and more! Plus the very cool TY 2025-2026 hoodies arrived - thanks Mr Eppel!

  • Purim and World Book Week, 2nd - 6th March. See Purim & World Book Week blog.
  • BLOC Climbing Centre: 6th/13th/20th/27th March.
  • TY Subject choice, 4th - 11th March. TYs could sit in 5th and 6th Year classes to get a better sense of Leaving Certificate subjects
  • Tuesday, 10th March: TY JCPA (Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement) presentation. See blog.
  • Every Tuesday: visit to Orwell Lodge Nursing home before lunch.
  • Tuesday, 10th March: TY Walking Tour of Dublin. See blog.
  • Friday, 13th March: Chinese Tea Party. See blog.
  • Monday, 23rd March: Dublin City Student Enterprise Finals. See blog
  • Tuesday, 24th March: Kinia Paired Reading Training programme
  • Wednesday, 25th March: Geography Trip to the Incinerator, Sandymount. (see photo below)
  • Thursday, 26th March: Women in STEM - completely inspiring past pupil - Olivia Foley. Multimedia (DCU), Masters in Music & Technology (TCD) (see photos below)

Meanwhile TYs had three major Digital Portfolio deadlines:

Deadline #1: Sunday, 1st March. 

  • Have all experiences noted (September - February)
  • Have all reflections completed (September - February)
  • Review/update your goals and progress
  • Reflection on your second week of work experience

Deadline #2: Friday, 13th March

  • Term 2 - example of work you're most proud of in each of your TY subjects (Agriculture Science to Gaeilge)

Deadline #3: Friday, 27th March

  • Term 2 - example of work you're most proud on each of your TY subjects (Gaeilge Cumarsáide to SPHE, including Extra Curricular)

Stratford reach the 2026 Young Environmentalist Awards Finals in RDS for the first time

Congratulations to 1st Year Computer Studies students - Yair, Liam and Giorgi - who made it to the ECO-UNESCO 2026 Young Environmentalist Awards Finals held on 12th May with their Scratch coding project called "Giorgi the Litter Fighter". This is the first time that a Stratford project has made it to the finals - so very impressive work!
