TY Weekly: Bebras Challenge, School Choir, Mock Trials, 4X visit Criminal Courts of Justice

Criminal Courts Justice Dublin
NEWS / 18 November 2025

TY’s have been endlessly busy this week (10th - 14th November). Liam and Ciara report on all that is happening this week, amidst a lot of rain.

Monday, 10th November. This week we had the GPO tour where we learned all about the 1916 rising and what equipment some of these people would've had on them at times.

Tuesday, 11th November. Due to the Presidential inauguration our walking tour of Dublin City 'as Gaeilge' was postponed until Tuesday the 9th of December. While we are disappointed it will be a nice way to begin Mitzvah week.

Starting Tuesday, 11th November, Mr Barrett has set up a student choir that meets every Tuesday in the Herzog room at lunchtime. We have started working on our first few songs and adding harmonies. If you want to sing a few songs together come stop by.

Thursday 13th November.  The 4Y's are currently doing mock trials during Thursday classes while the 4X's are doing their Chinese classes. 4Y continued their mock trial classes and were arguing the fictional case of Maeve Moloney. Callum and Fionn served as the prosecution and Ciara and Brodie the defence. With strong opening speeches from both sides, powerful witness testimonies from Alanna, Abby, Glen and Lucy and just a few slip ups it was all very entertaining. We are all incredibly excited to continue with our next case this week.

Thursday 13th November. All the TY's had their Bebras challenge on Thursday up in the computer lab while some were at a basketball match. They did the Bebras challenge later in the afternoon.

While we we learning about law on Thursday the other class met at the Criminal Courts of Justice on Friday morning (14th November) and watched some real trials as well as being brought on a tour. Next week the 4X's will do Padel and the 4Y's will go to the courts.

Back at school due to the storm on Friday 14th November, Padel was unfortunately cancelled once again but we had a nice treat watching the film '300' as part of our Classics course on Athens and Sparta.

In preparation for the world of work we have started to research different professions so we can create a commercial advertising that job. It will be fun and to start working on them in the coming weeks before we present our finalised commercials to the class. They then will be judged and the best advert will receive a prize.

Please ensure that after you have gotten your work experience sorted that you fill out the form sent by Ms Maxwell. It can be found under the work experience section of our digital portfolio notebook
