Ciara (TY) keeps us up-to-date with the latest happenings in TY.

First thing Thursday morning (15th January) 4Y took our CAT exams for 2 hours in the Computer lab. These exams are to help us decide what subjects we want to take for the Leaving Cert. Good job to all of 4Y and good luck to 4X who will take theirs in the coming weeks.

On Friday we went skiing in Kilternan for our second week of lessons. This time we split into two groups of those who were there the week before and those who weren’t. There were a few falls, a lot of stumbles, one injury and one broken lift but it was easily fixed. All in all we had a lot of fun and are excited to get back on the slopes again this Friday.

Spontaneity overtook disappointment on Tuesday (20th January) when our walking tour 'as Gaeilge' was cancelled due to bad weather once again. We instead went to Liffey Valley to watch Hamnet as part of our English course. We ran for the S4 from school to make the 11:15 showing. It was a great movie that I would highly recommend to everyone. There is no disagreement here for Jessie Buckley’s best actress in a motion picture win at the Golden Globes. We then grabbed lunch and got the S4 back to school. Thank you to Ms Maxwell for the last minute organisation and we are excited to reschedule our walking tour.

This Thursday (22nd January) Eddie Mullins will come in first class to talk to all TY’s about his job as the CEO of Merchants Quay Ireland, a charity to support people affected by homelessness and addiction.

Sunday the 25th of January is Holocaust Memorial Day. All TY’s are expected to attend and represent Stratford at this event. It is a fitting event to commemorate and remember all the lives lost in the Holocaust.

Tánaiste Simon Harris visits Stratford College

Tánaiste Simon Harris visits Stratford College

On Friday afternoon, 23rd January, we had the privilege of welcoming Tánaiste Simon Harris to Stratford College.  Upon arrival, we met himself and local TD James Geoghegan before Mr. Harris addressed the school.  He spoke to us on a matter of issues, including how he became interested in politics, the importance of young people within it, and social media and its mental health implications.

We then ran a Q&A with questions coming directly from the student body, before the Tánaiste spoke separately with Jewish students.  In this sobering discussion, the problem of antisemitism was brought up, with the Jewish students bravely sharing their own experiences of it.  Photos were then taken at both the school and in Herzog Park before the visit drew to a close.  We all enjoyed the Tánaiste's visit; it was a great opportunity to display Stratford at its best and push for government action against antisemitism.
