On Tuesday, the 24th of February, the second years took part in a Fast Fashion workshop hosted by Leah Gaynor from Oxfam. There, we learned all about ethical fashion and how companies use greenwashing as a deceptive marketing tactic. We watched a video on clothing waste in the global south, and it is safe to say the statistics were appalling.

We then learned basic stitches to attempt to sew and repair our own clothes. Leaving the workshop, we were more informed, and we all had a great time as we expanded our sewing skills and our ethical fashion knowledge. It is workshops like these that help spread awareness for such vast issues, and we are infinitely grateful we got the chance to take part.

The session encouraged us to think more carefully about our own shopping habits and the impact they have on the environment. By learning how to repair clothes instead of throwing them away, we discovered simple ways we can reduce waste and make our wardrobes last longer. Overall, the workshop inspired many of us to be more mindful consumers and to support more sustainable and ethical fashion choices in the future.
