On Wednesday, 25th February at the end of Enterprise class the TY’s went to the computer lab to go see the first years Young Environmentalists projects. We played the games that they made aligning with the sustainable development goals and offered them some feedback. Thank you to all the first years who presented their work as it was all amazing and congratulations to the five groups who are now going to the semifinals.
Thursday first class (26th February) we had a subject choice fair in the hall where the fifth years were each representing a subject and we spent 4 minutes discussing the subject with them. They explained a little bit about the subject easing some of our concerns and offered a valuable insight into subject choices. After lunch we followed this up with a 2 hour teacher presentation where each teacher presented their subject to us and explained the coursework and some of the requirements. Thank you to the teachers and fifth year students for talking to us and a huge thanks to Ms Maxwell for organising the event. This will help us make our subject choices over the next few weeks.
On Friday (27th February) all TY’s took the Luas up to Carrickmines for our trip to GoQuest which is a series of 27 puzzle rooms each with a different challenge. We were split into four teams and went through the rooms trying to get as many points as we could from all the different games. There was a mix of physical, mental and skill challenges to suit all players and everyone had a lot of fun. Thank you to Ms Finnegan and Mr Dooner for taking us and Ms Maxwell for organising the day.
From Wednesday to the following Wednesday (4th - 11th March) TY’s will be permitted to sit into 5th and 6th year classes to help aid with subject choices. Be sure to ask the teacher first to see what times will suit and ask the teacher you would have at that time. Be quick about asking teachers because there is only 3 students allowed in class at a time so places will go quick.
Thursday (5th March) is parent teacher meetings for TY’s and we are expected to go with our parents. We are given the opportunity to talk to teachers about subject choices during this time so it is highly encouraged that we attend.
This Friday (6th March) all TY’s are going to a climbing centre to begin our climbing module. Please ensure that you have filled out the waiver beforehand or else you won’t be able to climb.
