Stratford's Wellbeing theme: Own it -- Being prepared

NEWS / 9 February 2026

As part of our Wellbeing theme this year, we are focusing on “Own It” — encouraging students to take positive responsibility for their daily routines, choices, and learning.

A key part of this is helping students own their mornings and arrive at school calm, confident, and ready to learn. With adult support at home, we can help students build simple habits that make a big difference.

Here are a few ways you can help your child “Own It” when getting ready for school:

  • Organisation: Encourage your child to have their uniform laid out and their schoolbag packed the night before, with all necessary books and equipment ready to go. Books and uniform clearly labelled. Calendar up with important dates and deadlines.
  • Lunch preparation: Where possible, involve your child in preparing or checking their lunch so they take ownership of this part of their day.
  • Breakfast matters: Starting the day with a healthy breakfast helps children concentrate and feel ready to learn.
  • Good morning routines: Getting up at a reasonable time allows for a calm start to the day, reducing rushing and stress.

These small, consistent steps help students develop independence, confidence, and valuable life skills. Most importantly, they empower students to take pride in being organised and prepared. Together, we can help our students grow into capable and resilient learners.

Senior Cycle Subject Fair for Transition Year Students

On Thursday 26th February Transition Year students participated in a Senior Cycle Subject Fair. In session one we had an opportunity to speak with 5th years about the subjects they had chosen.  During session 2, the teachers presented their individual subjects to us outlining curriculum content and assessment details.  Next, students have the chance to sit in on senior cycle classes.  Hopefully we will be well informed in advance of picking our subjects for Leaving Cert.
