Stratford U16 Boys Basketball team make it to the Cup semi-finals

Boys Basket Ball Quarters Vs Cabinteely 13 Nov2024
NEWS / 14 November 2024

Stratford 16's came up against another big sporting school ... Cabinteely Community School in the Cup quarter finals on Wednesday 13th November. Our boys had an eventful start to their day as a misunderstanding with the Coach led the team having to race to the match in two taxi's, as Trains, Planes and Automobiles came to mind!

Despite the hurried warm up and a relatively slow start our team began to dominate with pulsating performances and 40 points from Tomer and Josh. And dropping huge 3 pointers at crucial times. Our team crushed the opposition in second half as we ran out 66-28 winners. Sean, Omri, Paddy doubled up as our second bomb squad as a number of the team had Science Week commitments. Louis, along with Colin and Roberto were all carrying injuries so their game time was limited as Coach O'Callaghan wanted to preserve them for semi-finals. Adam and a really strong Liam directed operations as point guards and were ably assisted by a scoring Shea, who gave some marvellous assists. First year debutant Robert gave an impervious display belying his years in a gritty and classy display along with adding valuable points to the team. Robert is the first first year to be a starting five player in Stratford's recent history in boys basketball. Brodie contributed to scores and pulled down some incredible boards (rebounds) and gave a real gutsy performance.

The Coach would like to thank management and the brilliant Stratford staff for their wonderful support and accommodations and is looking forward to the boys and the girls juniors carry on the tremendous success to date. The girls under 16's are awaiting external results to see if we qualify for the knock out stages.. Fingers crossed. Onwards and upwards!
