End of term 1 report: January 2026

Background:
In August 2025, Teaching and Learning Targets were set for Term 1 2025–2026 on our return to school. These targets were guided by feedback received from all stakeholders in May 2025 through surveys of all stakeholders, staff & student focus groups, and staff discussion. Post December 2025 House-Exams, surveys were sent to all stakeholders (parents, students and teachers). This feedback alongside ‘focus group’ feedback (Student Council, Parent-Teacher meetings, staff meetings such as Year Head Meetings and Senior Management meetings) will guide future targets.

Teaching and Learning Targets: School Improvement Plan (August 2025 – May 2026)

  • All teachers will support students with exam preparation through focused summative and formative assessment practices: e.g. teachers could provide marking schemes, rubrics, exemplars, sample answers to students; students engage peers and self-assessment.
  • All teachers will build on feedback techniques e.g. SMART Target: Teachers will provide timely & constructive written feedback to students that aligns with learning outcomes and success criteria for at least 2 x major pieces of work set this term e.g. (Descriptive - 2 Stars & a Wish; Criterion based feedback.
  • Students will receive 2 x pieces of their feedback digitally e.g. School Wise; One Note.

SSE Survey Results:

100 students responded, 34 parents and 16 teachers. (TY students did not do exams but some commented). All stakeholders were asked the same questions. This evidence points to the fact that the targets set in August remain relevant for January-May 2026.

What are we doing well?

  • School atmosphere, culture, and dedication of staff complimented.
  • Some excellent teaching practices are mentioned in surveys and in student focus groups.
  • Teach Meets are very successful and staff attendance CPD.
  • One Note (MS Teams) is beneficial for many subjects but not all.

What will we need to continue working on?

  • Student well-being continues to be a priority for all stakeholders. Special attention needed before and after exams, student wellbeing is central when students are being prepared for exams and when students receive feedback. (Feedback shows that staff and parents are mindful of the 1st t Year Student Experience and the pressure on those students in State Exam Years)
  • Student preparation for state and house exams continues to be a priority area for teaching and learning.
  • Staff will continue to employ varied, differentiated, and timely feedback to students in both digital and hard copy formats.
  • More consistent use of digital platforms by teachers and students, e.g. School Wise; MS Teams/ One Note; TYRO.
  • More consistent use of the School Journal by students to record homework and manage themselves.
