On Tuesday the 10th of February, we went to the National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street. We took the 15B into town first thing in the morning and we got off on George’s Street and walked to the museum from there.

Eleanor was our brilliant guide who showed us around the Viking exhibit in the museum. She is a professional archaeologist who specializes in human remains. She showed us everything from the toy boats that the Viking children played with to a skeleton that was over 1000 years old. We also got to look at the ancient Viking board games and a 1000-year-old Ulfberht sword made of pure iron. We also peeked at the ‘buzz bones’ that the Vikings used as fidget toys.

We then went to The Treasury and saw artefacts such as the Ardagh chalice and the Tara Brooch. We also saw the cross of Cong, Derrynaflan Silver Paten, the Loughnashade Horn, the Lismore Crozier and the Broighter Collar.

After our museum tour, we split into two groups and went to get drinks and snacks. One group went to Costa, and the other group went to Starbucks and Gino’s Gelato, and we got hot chocolates, crepes, coffee and ice cream. After that we met back up at Brown Thomas, and we took the 15A and 15 back to school.

It was a wonderful day filled with learning, fun, and hot chocolates. Thank you Ms Kenny, Ms Clarke, Ms Jensen and Ms Tzika for co-ordinating the day.
