On Thursday, Thursday the 27th of April, we watched the World Wise Global Schools Webinar about Our Journey Towards Racial Justice. Racial Justice is the proactive fight for everyone, no matter their identity, to have fair treatment for all groups in society. The webinar promoted pro-active citizenship and was very encouraging for us all, to stand up and do the right thing.

The webinar was MC’ ed by Valery Molay. Panelists included Mairtin Beanz Warde, a comedian from the Traveller community, Sandrine Ndahiro, co- founder of Un silencing Black Voices, Boniface, Boni, Odoemene, co-founder of Black and Irish Instagram and Tik-Tok, Francesca Hutchinson, an artist from the Traveller community and Denise Chaila, a rapper, singer, and poet. They all give a voice to their communities and are expressing their experiences through their art. They explore their experiences of discrimination and use their platforms of art, music, and drama to educate others.

Shakira Kisoghe explained what racial justice is, and students had the opportunity to highlight their work on the theme of racial justice. I particularly like an amazing piece drawn by artist Blanche, which displayed the main themes and the conversations of panelists as well as schools participating in the webinar.

I really enjoyed this informative and creative way of exploring this theme, which focused on people taking action and sharing their own stories and experiences. It was also beneficial to hear the panelists speak about their communities and what they are doing to raise awareness about this important theme and I think we all learned from the experience, we are all on this ‘journey’ to make society a better place.
