NEWS / 25 April 2018

Ms. Donohoe, Ms. Caspi and the TYs went on a walking tour of Dublin to see it from a NeoClassical perspective.

This morning (25th April) some transition year Classical Studies students along with Ms. Caspi and myself went on a NeoClassical walking tour of Dublin.
The focus of the tour was to gain an appreciation of how Greek and Roman architecture has influenced iconic buildings around Dublin (e.g. Customs House, the GPO, College Green, Trinity College and City Hall). We discussed the orders of architecture, dates, architects, building materials and the purpose(s) of each building project.
The group were divided into smaller groups and given a handout to fill in with information. Each group is going to create a photo album of the trip with success criteria asking for photos "with a twist".
Thanks to Ms. Caspi and the students for making the tour so enjoyable. I hope today gave the students a greater sense of the beauty of the architecture on our doorstep.
