TY student, Grace O'Dwyer, is also an active Comhairle na nÓg member and attended the AGM in Croke Park on Thursday, 22nd October. Comhairle na nÓg is comprised of 31 Youth Councils across the country, which give young people under the age of 18 a voice on local services and policies. Grace was actively involved in the AGM and explains her involvement.

On Thursday the 22nd of October 2015 I attended the Annual General Meeting of Comhairle na nÓg held in Croke Park for the first time as an active member. I got elected onto the Youth Council at the last AGM and this year I got to co-facilitate a table as I watched so many other members do last year.

I got to encourage others at my table and others who weren't in my constituency at the breaks of the meeting. I got to discuss relevant topics that were up for voting for to work on for this year. The topics that were up for voting were The Education System, youth services and the environment. These topics were up to vote for as they were the most popular topics chosen by schools in Dublin City. After we discussed all of these topics in our tables we voted for the topic the majority of people at the AGM , which was the Education System, which is what we will be working on for the next year.

As a co-facilitator it was my job to convince the people at my table to run to be a member of Comhairle, to help them prepare speeches to get onto the Council and to help them get over any nerves of public speaking. Everyone on my table ran for the election in our constituency, which was Dublin South Central, all of the tables from Dublin South Central had to come together and vote for the members they wanted to put forward on to the Dublin City Comhairle. All of my table successfully spoke out to the rest of the Dublin South Central tables. Two out of the four delegates on my table got elected into the Council for the next 2 years.

Overall it was a fun and interesting experience to be on the other end of the AGM meetings and being able to organize aspects of it. I also enjoyed helping people face their fears of public speaking and helping them achieve their goals of getting onto the council.
