TY Classical Studies projects: The Odyssey

NEWS / 24 April 2014

Ms. Donohoe explains what has to be done for the TY Classical Studies projects on The Odyssey.

The Odyssey is often considered a timeless epic classic, with themes of hospitality, loyalty, perseverance, and vengeance present throughout. We continue to see these themes in books and movies published and produced today.

Homer’s Odyssey is almost 3,000 years old. In your groups, choose from one of Odysseus’ adventures below. Your group has two weeks to retell the story in your own way – 2014 style. Your group may choose to write a poem, song, short story, graphic novel, comic, play, model (clay figures), power point, video etc. Unlike Homer, where oral poetry was the only medium available you can choose from the above or perhaps something not listed above.
•    Each group will have 5mins.
•    This assessment will be worth 10% of your final year result.
•    Each student must submit a report explaining their role in the group.

Odysseus’ adventures (Books 5-10)

  • Odysseus and Calypso
  • Odysseus and Nausicaa
  • Odysseus and the Cicones
  • Odysseus and the Lotus Eaters
  • Odysseus and the Cyclops
  • Odysseus and Aeolus
