National Drawing Day is on 20th May. Cathal Brugha Barracks is hosting drawing sessions facilitated by 'Artist in Residence' Margaret Fitzgibbon. Earlier in March the TY students exhibited some of their work representing International Women's Day.

Following on from our successful, inaugural 2016 event, Cathal Brugha Barracks is delighted to participate once again in National Drawing Day (20th May 2017). Facilitated by 'Artist in Residence' Margaret Fitzgibbon and funded by The Dublin City Council Arts Office, we welcome back to the barracks three neighbourhood, local groups that we are developing links with, to enjoy a day of creative, experimental drawing in one of the main function rooms in the heart of the Barracks.

On the day, Rathmines Women's Refuge, Gateway Mental Health Association, Rathmines and Stratford College, Rathgar - Transition Year students will be joined by members of the Barracks' personnel. Under supervision of several experienced art teachers, the various groups will participate in collective and individual drawing sessions. The programme includes: demonstrations in various drawing materials, i.e. conte, charcoal, chalks, ink and making their own unique drawing tools while sharing refreshments and a sit-down lunch together, courtesy of the barracks (N.B. This is not a public event).

This is the first of many cultural outreach events to be held in the Barracks in the coming months, including Culture Night on Friday, 22nd September 2017.
