On Wednesday, 6th May, the Student Council and Deputy Prefects coordinated Stratford College’s Culture Day to celebrate the diverse cultures of the student body.

The TYs enjoyed a capoeira dancing workshop while the 5th years went down to the Deli with Ms Weider, Mr Fennell, Mr Barrett and Ms Mahon to do a challah baking workshop with help from the Deli staff. Back at the school, a drumming workshop was held for the Junior years while the Deputy Prefects organised Fruits From Around the World for the student body.

Students used the school intercom to give greetings in different languages that day and created a song list which was based on a whole-school survey that asked students to suggest a song in their native language or country of origin.

A table was set up for lunch time with a plethora of fruits from a variety of cultures, for example: starfruit from Malaysia, dragon fruits originally from southern Mexico and the cherimoya from the high-altitude regions of Ecuador. Additionally, the Deputy Prefects organised a playlist of cultural songs chosen by the students themselves via Microsoft forms.

Culture Day was a huge success all around this year and we hope to participate and help coordinate it again next year. Global Citizenship at its best!

Ethan (5th Year)
