CSPE students engage with topics using active teaching methods

NEWS / 7 November 2013

Ms. Kenny explains how CSPE students get to explore different topics using active teaching methodologies.

Team WorkCSPE Projects

Walking Debate
Just one way of students expressing their opinions or showing what they know about a topic.  Also a way of thinking critically as students can change their position based on a sound argument they heard or new information they have learned.
e.g. CSPE: Do animals have rights?
History: ‘Ireland had a lucky war’- this was said in relation to WWII. Explain why this statement is true or false.  Include adequate and accurate material in your answer.

Walking Fact Finding Exercise
Groups of students walk around the classroom to find answers to worksheet questions that are displayed on classroom posters or objects that are displayed.  These same answers may be found on posters on the classroom walls.  Similar exercise to active learning on a museum visit where students have a worksheet and the group examine the objects displayed and find out information from the exhibits only.

Students are divided into groups/ committees to organise and carry out tasks.  Then students report and reflect on their activities both as individuals and as members of a group.
Raising Awareness and Fund-raising for the DSPCA
