NEWS / 16 December 2019

The Class of 2019 were invited back to a special Awards Reception in the Herzog Room on Friday, 13th December. 5th and 6th Year students mingled with staff and the 2019 prizewinners.

On Friday the 13th of December, Ms Gordon and 5th and 6th year students gathered along with staff to celebrate the Class of 2019 in the Herzog Room. (Please see 6th Year Awards Assembly for presentation of in-house Awards). We were delighted to welcome Tim Murphy, James O’Brien, Anna Baker and Remus Treacy McGee as representatives of their class and present them with their specially selected book prizes.

Ms Gordon presented the Student of the Year Award to Tim Murphy, who ‘stood out for his maturity, integrity, empathy and popularity amongst his peers’. Tim also won two other categories; the History prize along with Molly McClean, presented by Ms Kenny, and the Maths prize presented by Mr Fennell. Congratulations to James O’Brien who won the Science category, also presented by Mr Fennell. Well done to Anna Baker who was awarded both the Biology and Modern Foreign Languages academic achievements. Congratulations to Remus Treacy McGee who was awarded The Feldman Award for Literary Merit by Ms Reynolds.

Each teacher spoke of the qualities they considered when nominating their subject award, with a common theme being a consistent work ethic, challenging received knowledge, and being curious.

Thanks very much to Ms O’Kelly for her help with selecting the book prizes from Alan Hanna’s bookshop in Rathmines, to Hilary, Lynn and Lisa for providing delicious cakes and sandwiches, and to Trish, Brendan and the Student Council for their help with setting up the Herzog Room. We hope all the recipients have received their books in the post and that their end of term exams went well. We wish all the Class of 2019 continued success in their studies and a restful winter break. For more photos see the 2019-2020 gallery.
