Prizewinners at SciFest@Stratford 2014

On 29th April 2014 Stratford College hosted its first SciFest@Stratford. TY students were judged on their Scratch programming projects. Three external SciFest judges visited the school. Congratulations to Andrew Enright and Rory Murphy who were placed 1st, Svetlana Cvetica and Jessica Nelkin who were placed 2nd, and to Nicole Lawlor and Kate Dempsey who were placed jointly in 3rd place. Not only was it a first for Stratford College, but it was a first for SciFest@Schools - this was the first time in Ireland that Scratch programming projects were entered into the competition.

Stratford College win annual ‘Ides of March’ Classical Studies Quiz

On 25th March 2014, Stratford College entered four teams and all teams came in the top ten - out of 27 teams. Stratford College won first place with a remarkable 55/60. Our team was captained by Oscar McHale (3rd Year) and was comprised of Rory Murphy (TY), Alice Murphy (6th year) and Rachel Jones (6th year). Well done to all the teams who entered.

Jake Regan (2013) awarded Entrance Exhibition Award by Trinity College Dublin

Congratulations to Jake Regan who was awarded an Entrance Exhibition Award by Trinity College Dublin, on Monday 18th November 2013, as a result of his high performance in the Leaving Certificate 2013.

5th Year Chemistry students win Marsh’s Library ‘Curious Experiments’ video competition

Congratulations to 5th Year Chemistry students, Michael, Sae and Rachel on winning the Marsh's Library 'Curious Experiments' on 29th May 2013. The students had to submit a video of them doing at least 5 experiments inspired by an 18th Century poster (see image) suggesting 50 experiments "For the Amusement anf Entertainment of Ladies as well as Gentlemen".

Junior Girls win Schools Challenge at Terenure 5 Mile Run

Congratulations to the Junior Girls team who won the Schools Challenge trophy at the Terenure 5 Mile Run on Sunday, 20th May 2013.

Junior Girls Team: Alannah O'Byrne (1st Year), Carmel Grey (3rd Year), Fiona Maguire (3rd Year), Sadhbh Charles (TY) and Alice Murphy (5th Year)

Feis Maitiu 2013: U18 Group come 1st and U14 Group come 2nd in their Improvisation competitions

The drama class took part in the Improvisation competitions at Feis Maitiu 2013 at The Mill Theatre on 14 May 2013. The under 14 group were Ryan Baker, Cormac Kelly, Alanah O'Byrne and Grace O'Dwyer. Their title was The New Neighbour and they did very well, coming in second place.

Our under 18 group was made up of Hugh Cannon, Rachel Jones, Alice Murphy, Diarmaid Kelly and Evan Matthews. Their title was The Therapist and they stole the show, coming first place. Alice Murphy took part in the under 18 solo drama competition on 16 May. Well done to all!

Stratford come in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place at 2013 Ides of March Classical Studies Quiz

Congratulations to the 17 students from Stratford College who participated in the annual Ides of March Classical Studies quiz on Thursday, 21st March 2013. This year 21 teams took part in the quiz with students representing a number of secondary schools from Dublin, Mullingar and Drogheda. Stratford entered four teams and our success was remarkable. Stratford came second, third, fourth and fifth. Our team captained by Rory Murphy (3rd Year) came very close to winning first place. They scored 53/60 points, only one point behind the top spot.

Stratford College come 1st and 3rd in Classical Studies Speech Competition

επιφ. συγχαρητήρια to the five students who entered the Classical Studies speech competition in Trinity College on Thursday, 7th March 2013, organised by the CAIT (Classical Association of Ireland - Teachers) and the Classics department TCD. Stratford College came 1st and 3rd - a truly remarkable achievement. Alice Murphy (5th year) came first for her powerful and moving recital from Sophocles' Antigone. Katie Richardson McCrea (5th year) came third for her poignant and heartfelt recital from Euripides' Medea. Evan Matthews (2nd year) came 3rd in the Junior Certificate Classical Studies category for his entertaining and informative recital from Plautus' The Swaggering Soldier.

Senior History team win History Teachers Association of Ireland 2013 Senior History Quiz

Congratulations to the Senior History team - John Nolan (6th Year), Katie McCrea (5th Year), Rory O'Neill (5th Year) and Diarmaid Kelly (5th Year) who won the 2013 Senior History Quiz, organised by the History Teachers Association of Ireland, on Monday 21st January 2013. They got 56 out of 60 answers correct.
