NEWS / 11 March 2015

It was an exciting evening in Mt. Anville on Tuesday, 10th March at the annual Ides of March Quiz organised by the Classical Association of Ireland Teachers. One of Stratford's four team was joint first with Gonzaga College for the last three rounds and lost out on the tie-breaker question.

Four teams were entered by Ms. Donohoe into the annual Ides of March Inter-Schools Table Quiz on Tuesday, 10th March. It was a closely fought contest with the team consisting of Hannah Kearns (6th Year), Oscar McHale(TY), Rory Murphy(5th Year) and Ryan Baker (3rd Year) being in joint first position with Gonzaga College for the last three rounds of the competition. It went to a tie-breaker question at the end of the evening and Gonzaga were deemed the winners.

Ms. Donohoe later spoke passionately about the teams, the questions and the Quiz at the 2nd Year's Assembly on Friday, 13th March. She explained that the team that went to the tie-breaker situation got 56/60 questions correct. She also explained that the questions at the Quiz are drawn from the 10 topics of Classical Studies - a huge range of knowledge to know. Almost thirty teams competed and Stratford College's four teams were all in the top ten.

The other teams were:

  • Alannah O'Byrne, Tim Cullen, Jake Long and Kate Dempsey
  • Sean Lysaght, Ciara Harrison, Ciaran O'Byrne and Cormac Kelly
  • Ethan Brady-Arnold, Turlough Eccles, Jake Henry and Tim Murphy

Thanks to Mr. Stewart who went to the Quiz on the night as Ms. Donohoe had other school commitments but was in constant contact to find out how things were progressing!
