NEWS / 20 November 2013

Alan Gibbons, prize-winning author and the keynote speaker for Arts Week 2013, regaled the whole school with stories of his life on Monday, 11th November.

The much lauded, multiple award winning author, Alan Gibbons opened our Arts Week 2013. His most notable awards are the Blue Peter Literary Award and being shortlisted for The Bookmark Teenage Prize and the Carnegie Medal. Alan entertained the school with hilarious tales of how he transitioned from being a full time teacher to a full time writer. After his talk he led our community of writers in a two hour writing workshop, whereby they communally created a story set around a car crash. Some really gripping work materialised from this time, leaving behind him some really sensually attuned writers.  (Click on blog title for more photos.)

In my opinion Arts Week was one not to be forgotten. Weith performances from Alan Gibbons and Temper-Mental Miss Elayneous it was jam-packed with treats. Everyday there was something to look forward to and every day was enjoyed. I really hope more schools start doing it and I can't wait for the next day.
