French teacher, Mr. Priestley, explains about the DELF exams and what the TY students were examined on in early May.

As part of Stratford College’s Transition Year French programme, students prepared for Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF) exams at the Alliance Française on Kildare Street in early May.

The framework for DELF allows students to study French beyond their Leaving Certificate within an academic structure that is certified by the French government. Qualifications can be pursued alongside third level education and professional training in locations across the world.

Students from Stratford College sat their exams at entry levels A1 and A2. The objective of the DELF exam is to equip non-French speakers with enough language to cope with everyday scenarios. It is a useful means for students to adapt the formulated learning required for state examinations to a genuine working knowledge of idiomatic French.

Students were confident that the exams had gone well and many are already looking forward to achieving the next DELF qualifications as part of the fifth year course.
