A new and exciting partnership has just started between Stratford College TY Computer Studies class and 3rd Year Computer Science students from DIT Kevin Street. Over a series of five Friday mornings during February and March, a number of DIT Computer Science students are coming in to the TY Computer Studies class to mentor them in Python and Raspberry Pi. The DIT students are doing this as an elective module called "Computing in the Community".

Starting Friday, 10th February, a number of 3rd Year Computer Science students from DIT Kevin Street are coming to the TY Computer Studies classes to mentor them in Python and Raspberry Pi. The TYs are currently undertaking the Microcontrollers module as part of the ICS Computing Curriculum, while the 3rd Year DIT students have elected to do a module called "Computing in the Community" worth 5 ECTS credits. Thanks to Brian Gillespie and Liz McKeever from DIT Kevin Street for making this possible in this exciting 2nd Level - 3rd Level collaboration.

One of the DIT students - Alan - writes of the experience: "I am part of a group of 4 DIT students who will be assisting Transition Year students in Stratford College with learning programming. We are doing this as part of our 3rd Year module, "Computing in the Community", worth 5 ECTS credits. In it, we hope to contribute back to the community with the knowledge we have gained in college so far. While some of us are here teaching, our DIT colleagues are assisting disability organisations."

Cath Barry in TY says of the initial experience: "When stuck with a problem there are now more people to ask for help. Today we learnt all about strings."
