On Wednesday, 29th March, Mr. Priestley and Mr. Kearns brought a large group of students who play football after school to watch Ireland versus Iceland in a friendly international football match.

Students participating in Stratford College’s football programme took another trip to the Aviva Stadium to watch the Republic of Ireland take on Iceland in an international friendly.

This was the second outing to Landsdowne Road for the school’s footballers and spirits were high as we boarded a coach outside the school in the early evening of match day.

The North and Lower East Stands were packed with visiting schools who were animated and vociferous in their support for the Irish team.

There was little action to get excited about during the game yet the support persisted; despite a lacklustre performance and a disappointing result. Students who participate in after-school football are given first access to tickets allocated through the FAI scheme.

This is done to encourage participation in extra-curricular activities and to develop a connection to the wider community through a shared interest in football. It is hoped that students will get the opportunity to support the boys in green in crucial World Cup qualifier games later in the year.
