On 17th February 2017, the winning books in the Junior and Senior Category were announced at the Inaugural Great Reads Award hosted by The King's Hospital Library. Four Junior books and four Senior books were selected from a long list collated by librarians who are members of the Irish School Library Association. Students get to rate each book that they read. The Junior and Senior books getting the most votes - win! The school with the most student votes also win a prize.
On 17th February, "The Art of Being Normal" by Lisa Williamson won the Great Reads Award Senior Category prize and "Knights of the Borrowed Dark" by Dave Rudden won the Junior Category (the most read book in the competition) in the first ever Great Reads Award. Authors had to be debut Young Adult authors, published between January 2015 and June 2016. Students get to rate each book that they read. The Junior and Senior books getting the most votes - win! The school with the most student votes also win a prize.
There was a lot of interest in a number of the books in both the Junior and Senior category.

Our Transition Year (TY) students hosted a successful coffee morning in the school hall to raise funds for Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services in Harold's Cross. Year groups visited the hall in turn for tea, coffee, and treats. Thanks to Ms. Maxwell, Ms. Talbot, Ms. McGill and all our TY students.

On Wednesday, the 23rd of September, a group of us TY students had the opportunity to welcome Irish writer Elaine Garvey to our school, where we took part in a two-hour workshop with her. On Friday the 25th of September, we embarked on our weekly trip which brought us northside, to Glasnevin Cemetery, so write Ianis, Vihaan and Matthew B (TY Weekly editors).
Some of our Chinese students celebrated the Mooncake Festival this morning with traditional treats, and stories about the holiday. The round shape of the mooncakes mirrors the bright harvest moon, symbolizing family togetherness and completeness.
