Stratford compete in UCD’s L & H Debates

NEWS / 3 December 2014

3rd Year student, Cormac Kelly, explains the importance of competing in the L & H debates throughout the Winter Term.

L & H Society, UCDThis year I took part in the L & H Debates in UCD with my classmate Alanah. Not only were these debates topical and relevant to us, but also helped improve our public speaking in a fun way.

The first debating team Eoin and Tim competed in two rounds:
1st motion was "This house would ban songs which glorify misogyny". Tim and Eoin were in favour of this motion and both spoke very convincingly.
2nd motion was " This house shall allow the use of corporal punishment in the classroom". Tim and Eoin spoke in favour of this motion and also spoke very well even though it was a difficult topic to support. Tim and Eoin learned a lot from competing against older students and learned valuable debating skills that they can continue to develop in the future.
