Stratford celebrates Tech Week 2018 in Computer Studies classes

Tech Week2018
NEWS / 24 April 2018

Stratford is celebrating Tech Week 2018 (22nd - 28th April) during Computer Studies classes. Apart from many Computer Science 'unplugged' activities and online coding and computational thinking puzzles, TYs had speakers from Hewlett Packard and Virgin Media to hear a talk about 'IT is not just for geeks'.

In addition TYs are visiting the Science Gallery to see the 'Fake' exhibition as well as participating in a make-an-LED-torch workshop. The fun continues next week when a visiting lecturer from the IT Tallaght will be doing two micro:bit workshops with 3rd years and TYs.

Read more about the 'IT is not just for geeks' presentation by Lisa D'Arcy and Ifah Sivak from CWIT (Connecting Women in Technology) from a TY perspective:

"As part of Tech Week two speakers came into our class to talk to us about the world of tech. They spoke to us about different jobs available which was very interesting because I didn't realise that if you had a degree in Business you could get a job in tech. It opens up a whole new world of opportunities."
