Ski Trip to Austria a terrific success

NEWS / 14 January 2015

TY students, Niall Garvey, Edward Keogh and Megan Harnett were on the recent skiing trip to Austria, from Sunday 4th January to Thursday, 8th January. They thoroughly enjoyed it as you will read.

On 4th January, we met at Dublin airport at 4am. We then took a two hour flight to Munich. When we arrived in Munich it was freezing and the roads were covered in snow. After we had got our bags back we then had to take a two hour bus drive to Austria. On the way to Austria we played music and ate food while we admired the view of the buildings in Munich as they were different to the ones in Dublin.

When we arrived in Austria we were all knackered so wanted to sleep ... but our rooms were not ready so we had to go for lunch near by. We had lunch and the food was good but the hot chocolate was even better! The next day we woke up at 8am and walked up for breakfast. We then got our skis and helmets and got out onto the snow.

I was in a group with Evan, Isabelle, Megan, Jenny and Niall. On the first day somebody crashed into me and I had fell over. Our instructor had to help me, but then Isabelle fell right beside me, and so did another lad, and while we were on the ground Evan came down and he didn't know how to stop at the time!! He nearly killed me and Niall and  Isabelle. Then he crashed and tumbled and it was funny and everyone laughed.

The evenings were also fun because we went ice-skating, a firing range with fake guns and a ski show. The dinner was not nice though. It was very messy and the person serving it didn't really give that much out. But I really enjoyed the trip and will definitely be going back. The people were really nice as well, especially our instructor Justin who I really liked. He was a lad and he could have great banter. He was a great skier as well. For more photos go to the 2014-15 Gallery.

Austria was a great experience. I loved skiing on the slopes and the village was quaint and picturesque. The Tirol region of Austria was like a scene from a movie, it was surreal but in a good way. The slopes were entertaining to ski down and the ski lifts were very cool. Haus Alpenblume had really cosy apartments and the Ski Show, Airsoft Gun Range and other activities wer fun. Overall it was an Amazing School Trip and I would like to go back someday.

On behalf of the TYs, I'd like to thank Ms. Finnegan for organising our trip to Austria and making it such a memorable trip along with Ms.Brouder. It's safe to say the trip to Austria was simply amazing. In the course of 3 days we managed to do a lot activities from air-rifling to ice skating and seeing a spectacular ski show. My favourite was air-rifling - on my first ever go I managed to get a bulls eye! It was quite ironic. Other than gaining a new skill which is obviously skiing, I got a new hobby which I would like to keep up now at home for sure. Our apartment was extremely spacious and even had bean bags, a stereo, a massive TV and more in it. I wouldn't change a thing about our trip to Austria!
