Criminal Courts Of Justice
NEWS / 23 February 2018

The TYs spent the week beginning Monday, 19th February participating in Law Week. A visiting barrister came to the school and they participated in a mock trial. They also visited the Criminal Courts of Justice to witness what it was like to sit in an actual court. A number of the TYs recount their experiences.

On the 19th, 20th and 22nd of February the TYs got to experience the legal system in Ireland. On Monday and Tuesday, a lawyer came in and explained to us her work as a barrister. she spoke at length about her experience becoming a barrister and the type of work she does. She explained the difference between a solicitor and a barrister and showed us examples of big, high-profile cases. On the Tuesday we got to conduct a mock trial in class and we got to experience firsthand what participating in a trial was like.

I really enjoyed Law Week. It was great to experience what it was like to be in court and the mock trial was great fun.

The 19th to the 23rd of February was Law Week and for this week the TY students undertook a number of activities. A barrister came to our school to talk to us about law and other aspects of the courts. During these two days we not only learned about the courts but we also took place in a mock trial which we all enjoyed. On Thursday the 22nd we visited the Criminal Courts at Phoenix Park where we saw many court cases that were all very interesting and educational and we also took place in another mock trial in a court room where we got the full experience of being judge, jury, witness, barrister, defendant, registrar and solicitors.
