NEWS / 15 June 2015

In the first week of May, Stratford's Junior drama students excelled themselves in the group improvisation competitions by coming 1st and 2nd respectively, in the U16 and U14 classes. Well done to all and thanks to Ms. Coogan their drama teacher. 3rd Year student, Alanah O'Byrne explains their improvisation in more detail.

The drama class once again entered Feis Maitiu speech and drama festival this year. Two groups entered the group improvisation competition, where competitors have five minutes to devise a scene based on a title provided by the adjudicator.  Our under 14 group, comprised of Anna Baker, Ana Jovanovich, Laura Kelly, Kharisma Messam and Charlotte Ward-Pratt performed "Everybody Has a Story to Tell" and we're awarded second prize!

Our under 16 group, comprised of Fionn Bentley, Cormac Kelly,  Alanah O'Byrne,  Geordan Sheridan O'Brien, Shimi Tillman and Megan Wynne performed "The Power Cut" and were awarded first prize.

Well done to everybody involved, for your commitment, focus and enthusiasm!

Ms. Coogan

The Feis Maitiu was really fun. Our group fell under the 14s - 16s category. The type of competition was group improvisation. This means that one group has five minutes to decide their idea. We were given a selection of five titles. After much debating we decided to choose "The Power Cut". Our plan was to evoke fear in the audience. Our idea was to have a waiter who turns off the lights and kills us off one by one until only one person was left. Clearly she [the adjudicator] liked our creativity because we came first. She also said in the comments that our ending scared her!
