Jewish Assembly: explains Rosh Hashanah

NEWS / 1 October 2024

For Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year), the Jewish students in Stratford college, particularly in 5th year, planned and hosted an assembly.

The assembly began with a speech from Chief Rabbi Yoni Wieder, who spoke to us about Rosh Hashanah and new beginnings.

Using a PowerPoint made by the students, we then learned about Rosh Hashanah, why it’s celebrated and how.  We also had a mock “Rosh Hashanah Seder”, where students got to try different foods traditionally eaten on Rosh Hashanah.   We tried dates, pomegranates and apples dipped in honey and afterwards had a table quiz on everything we learned that ended with a yummy prize (chocolate!!).

The assembly ended with the sound of the shofar being blown by Mr. Meuchas.   It was a lovely way to end the assembly and welcome the Jewish New Year.
