Since Friday 13th March schools in Ireland have been closed but teaching and learning has continued remotely using the power of technology. While the IT infrastructure within Stratford's school walls worked very well, never did we think that we would have to extend it to remote teaching.

The initial weeks before the spring holidays proved arduous as we all adjusted to this new realm, but since our return for the summer term, teaching and learning remotely has stabilised to a significant extent!

The following voices are just some of the comments we've received since the school's lockdown.

The Board of Management wanted to thank you all for your tremendous work in maintaining continuity of teaching and learning for our children. In the context of a global pandemic that has health systems, governments (even in the richest countries) … Stratford College is a ray of sunshine and stability in all of our lives! The continuation of education is extraordinary in this incredible situation. Board of Management

It feels like the teacher is immersed in teaching us 5th Year

You can ask questions to your teacher and they can answer you like in a real class 5th Year

Screencasts are more akin to a classroom setting. If questions arise, they can be asked and answered with ease. 6th Year

It feels more like we're in class, rather than simply reading notes left for us. 6th Year

It's as if I'm sitting in class 5th Year

It's very helpful to be able to ask questions in the moment verbally rather than sending a message and waiting for a response, also helps with the discussion of what topic is being taught. 5th Year

I would like to just say thank you first of all for all the hard work all the teachers are putting in to ensure we had the best possible classes online. Although some days were a struggle , I am very appreciative of what you all did and it helped maintain a sort of routine in these strange and difficult times . 6th Year

While parts of online learning may be difficult I believe that this experience will stand to us. This situation is allowing us as senior students to practice and refine our skills of self-directed learning. When something is in a crisis, you learn more than when things are going smoothly and I think that these circumstances are teaching us about ourselves in many ways. 5th Year

At first I found it quite hard getting used to OneNote and Teams but as both the students and teachers came to terms with remote teaching and learning I have found it to be very productive. 5th Year

Just wanted to let you know that you and all the teachers have done an extremely good and important job in these days. Thank you so much for providing our children with a routine, a learning space and a way to be in touch with classmates and teachers. So so grateful for helping us keeping them healthy. Parent

The online- learning support from all the staff has been awe-inspiring, showing the dedication of the Stratford College staff to its pupils. Parent
