The final of the National Poetry Aloud competition was held in the National Library on Friday, 9th December. After national heats and semi-finals, this was the last chance for the competitors to display their talent. Diarmaid Kelly from 4th Year represented Stratford College at the prestigious event. After hearing the ten students from the Junior category preform "The Violet-Maker" by Medbh McGuckian, it was time for the Intermediate category. The chosen poem was "His Eyes Were Empty" by Rita Ann Higgins. The poem was clever and required a lot of emotion from the readers. As expected, Diarmaid gave a fantastic performance; he clearly understood the poem and delivered it in a clear and well-paced manor. Unfortunately Diarmaid did not win the final, but he made it clear to the audience what potential he has when it comes to performing. It was a great event to be a part of and we really enjoyed seeing Diarmaid perform.
