During the summer term Oscar McHale, founder of the the Classical Youth Society of Ireland (CYSI), was so impressive on John Murray's radio show, that Oxford University invited the CYSI to Oxford in August. See the CYSI Facebook page for more details. Stratford's Classics teacher, Ms. Donohoe, also went on the trip along with many current and past pupils of Stratford. Thanks to Mai Musié (Outreach officer, Oxford) and to all those who helped make this trip happen. You know who you are!
The Oxford trip was a fantastic opportunity to escape from the life in Dublin and experience a completely different city. Oxford, to me, was beautiful. The architecture of the buildings and churches is what stood out for me, especially the "Harry Potter-esque" dining hall. Our day was filled with lectures and tours which showcased the plethora of things Oxford had to offer. From the brilliant Museums of Roman and Greek statues to the neat libraries inside.
My most memorable moment was probably on our free time to explore Oxford. Possibly the best 10 pounds I spent was renting out the paddle boats and gliding along the river, it really captured the city for me as many of the houses were lined up along it.
The ice cream was great too.

For me, the highlight of this trip was the Museum of Classical Studies. The statues, even though they had been partially reconstructed, really show the amount of skill and vision that the Greeks and Romans had. Their work was truly awesome and to see it in person, even recreations and partial reconstructions, emphasises this fact like no picture can.
