Students from first, second and third year joined thousands of fans cheering on the boys in green for their World Cup qualifier game against Georgia in the Aviva Stadium on Thursday, 6th October.
We met outside the school to board the bus to Landsdowne Road and to our seats on the North Stand, behind the goal that Ireland were attacking into for the first half.
There was a chill in the air and the Irish team found it difficult to break down a stubborn Georgian defence. During a frustrating first half, it was the away team who came closest to scoring, hitting the post and crossbar during a nervy Irish display.
The Irish fans were loud in their support and Stratford students lent their voices to the crowd encouraging the team on. The atmosphere was typical of the support Irish fans give their team and students were eager to join in with the chants and songs.
There was excitement all around the ground when Seamus Coleman cut through the Georgian defence and put Ireland 1-0 ahead. The celebrations were animated in our section for this crucial goal! The final whistle was met with relief as Ireland held on to secure three points in their campaign to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
After the final whistle, our group took some photographs while we waited a few minutes for the crowd to clear. From there, we walked along Bath Avenue in good spirits to find our bus to take us home.
