2nd Year Classical Studies Student, James O'Brien wrote a very clever poem for Ms. Donohoe as an assignment in March.
Classics Poem for The Swaggering Soldier Prologue
There once was a man named Pyrgopolynices,
He kidnapped a girl of his own species,
Philocomasium was her name,
She was brought back to Ephesus, which was pretty lame,
Luckily, there was a loyal servant to this girl,
For he was the clam and she was the pearl,
He (Palaestrio) followed on a boat,
And yes it did float,
But sadly enough his boat was overtook,
By some pirates and no, they didn’t have a hook,
Palaestrio was given as a present,
To his surprise which was rather pleasant,
To Pyrgopolynices, the man who could blink,
When he got there Philocomasium gave him a warning wink,
This is the start of the story for us,
It wasn't an original made by Plautus,
Menander was the first to write it,
It was called the 'Braggart' and I can tell you're excited,
Sadly enough this poem has reached its peak,
This play was not Roman, it was Greek.
