1st Year Science students experiment with Magnesium Oxide (MgO)

1st Year MgO expt1st Year MgO exptOn Thursday, 13thJanuary, 1st Year students did an experiment called Magnesium Oxide or (MgO). This involved each of us getting a piece of Magnesium which is a shiny metal that burns brightly in air. We got a tweezers and held the metal into the flames of the bunsor burner. There was an extremely bright light. For safety issues we had to wear safety glasses. When the Magnesium was burnt, all that was left was white powder that would dissolve slightly in water to make Milk of Magnesia.
