1st Year Geography students, Andrew Wright and Oonagh Delargy, describe the work involved in making contour maps as part of their Geography project.

We had to make it into a mountain shape. We built it up and up until we stopped and we cut it into shape as well.

Andrew Wright (1st Year)

In the middle of the year we made contour maps out of cardboard. We arranged the cardboard in the shape of mountains, getting smaller as they went up. They also changed colour as it went up because on an Ordnance Survey map thats how contours are shown.

I did mine in the shape of a smiley face and it looked really cool.

Oonagh Delargy (1st Year)
