Dress-up Day for Festival of Purim and World Book Day, 5th March 2015
Purim and World Book Day were both celebrated this year on Thursday, 5th March. The Student Council organised a dress-up day with the theme of "Careers". Students and staff went to great lengths to come into school in a variety of career related uniforms. Student Council asked all students to bring in money to give to Barnardos. The TY students organised a Book Sale on the same day in aid of St. Michael's House. The combination of Purim and World Book Day meant that there was a great buzz around the school during the day! Ms. Finnegan, Ms. Brouder and a group of TY and 5th Year students visited Austria for this year's skiing trip. There was a lot of snow this year and a good deal of sunshine, which made for perfect skiing weather. All the practise in Kilternan paid off, as the students really got to grips with skiing. The food and accommodation were terrific, there was lots of laughs and lots of falls. But that is part and parcel of a skiing holiday! Thanks to Ms. Finnegan for organising such a great trip and for all the help from Ms. Brouder. To read more about the Ski trip, go to the Sports blog.

Golden Jubilee Art Exhibition: Artist-in-Residence - Christopher Banahan
Born in Nottingham to Irish parents, Christopher Banahan received a First Class Honours degree in Fine Arts at Trent University in 1981. He went on to obtain an MA in Fine Arts from Goldsmith’s College in London, and became a Rome Scholar in the British School of Rome in 1990. Much of his work is influenced by his studies in Rome. His distinctive style derives from that of ancient Roman frescoes, such as those found in Pompeii. Chris’s paintings have a unique “aged” look, brought about by the unusual techniques he employs in his artwork. These techniques can be clearly seen in the portraits of both students and teachers on which he worked for eight weeks and on the panels influenced by classical Hebrew manuscripts. The portraits have a particular relevance to the Jubilee celebrations of Stratford College, in that they enable the students of today to reflect on the present and the students of tomorrow to reflect on the past. These photos are a small selection of the Art displayed around the school.

To get a further sense of the day go to the Art blog to watch the Diamond Jubilee Student Art Display again and go to the General School News blog to look at the official photographs taken so beautifully by John Ohle. Both videos use recordings of past and current pupils singing at the concert.
