Awards Ceremony and Raising of Second Green Flag, 23rd October 2015

Awards Ceremony and Raising of Second Green Flag, 23rd October 2015

The annual Awards Ceremony was held on Friday, 23rd October in the school hall. Guests of Honour at the Awards Ceremony were Oisín Orpen, from the Commercial Team of ESB Cars and Ciara Norton, from An Taisce. Stratford's second Green Flag (for Energy), was officially raised after the Awards Ceremony with Ciara Norton. In addition Green Schools had invited Oisín Orpen to bring an electric car which was parked in front of the school. Students got to sit in the car and pretend to drive it! Students, teachers, parents and past-pupils were treated to a wonderful musical interlude - you can listen back to them on the podcast and video. Well done to all the students who received an Award on the day and to all students for their own personal achievements. Go to the School News blog for more details.

TY Trip to Delphi, 7th - 10th September 2015

The TY students went to Delphi in early September where they were able to enjoy it to the utmost because of the beautiful weather.  The TY students did lots of different activities - including canoeing, surfing and climbing - and according to Ms. Finnegan really pushed themselves to do things they normally wouldn't attempt. Thanks to Ms. Finnegan for organising the trip and to Ms. Bennet and Mr. Smith who helped out too. See also the TY blog.

Sports Day, 7th May 2015

Sports Day, 7th May 2015

This year's Sports Day - Thursday, 7th May - was a gloriously sunny day, which slotted between days of torrential rain. Everyone was delighted, none more so than Ms. Finnegan and her group of helpers. The Sports Day timetable and teams were posted a week in advance, so that everyone knew what they had to do on the day. What a busy day for all concerned - Junior and Senior Basketball, Junior and Senior Soccer, 3-legged races for all years, Junior and Senior Sprints, Junior and Senior Tug-of-War, as well as the obstacle course and the sumo wrestling. Thank you very much Ms. Finnegan for a fantastic sporting day! Go to the Sports blog for more sporting activities.

School Walk, 27th April 2015

School Walk, 27th April 2015

The long-term weather forecast for Monday, 27th April had been for snow. So with some trepidation the whole school left  Stratford College at 9am basking in sunshine - what lay ahead no-one could tell! The school set off from Crone Wood car park, to walk a part of the Wicklow Way which skirts Djouce Mountain. With huge black clouds on the horizon the pace set by Ms. Kenny and Ms. Finnegan was fast. After a few food and drinks breaks - somewhat shorter than usual - the 10km walk ended above Lough Tay on the Roundwood-Glendalough road. The walk was completed in a record time of 3 hours.  Everyone was just seated down in their bus ... when it started to snow!  Thanks to the 5th Year LCVP class and Ms. Brouder for organising a great day which was all in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.  Go to the LCVP/Business blog for more details and photos.
