U16s Girls Basketball team do Stratford proud

U16girls Basketball 4 Oct2023
NEWS / 5 October 2023

A magnificent performance from our 16s in basketball versus a 3rd year/4th year Presentation College Terenure team, according to our coach Mr O'Callaghan.

Our team comprising mostly second years - four from eight players - were extraordinary in their performance coming from 8-2 down to level the score at 12-12 at half-time.

The second half saw our team tire as they used their squad of 12 but because of the rules we could only play eight players. Ms Donohoe and Ms Finnegan - I have never ever heard so much interest, love, passion and support in our games. I cannot emphasise as a coach how proud I am of every individual. You were ALL magnificent. We recorded a 12 point loss. We move on and what an extraordinary turnaround.

We beat Drimnagh 34-17. Both the Anna's excelling in defence attack. Aoibhin on rebounds and overall game management, Grace with fantastic crucial scores, Robyn and Isla tigers on defence and commitment, Lily and Lucy giving us incredible athleticism and fight, Cecily coming on from the bench and giving us a crucial score and basket and Noga produced a magical score from nowhere! Ten players excelled! Ten players all wanted to play - I loved the passion to play.

Finally on the Thursday afternoon session nine out of ten players are turning up for our U16s girls team and seven out of eight boys. This shows a fantastic commitment and a brilliant credit to Stratford. We are Stratford, we wear our colours, we are tribal and we look out for each other. In sport, in academia, in kindness and in spirit we will always use Veni Vedi Vici because we are winners!!

Mr O'Callaghan
