NEWS / 8 March 2011

Barnardos Ireland visited Stratford College on Wednesday, 9th February to talk to TY students. Fearghal Kelleher (TY) recounts the presentation.

TY students at Barnardos talkBarnardos presentationOn Wednesday, 9th February we went to the Computer Room to meet our speaker, from Barnardos, a charity which deals with taking care of and protecting children who's wellbeing and basic needs (food, clothing, etc) are threatened daily.

John, from Barnardos, began the presentation with asking us questions about the charity itself and about the work it does. We were then shown statistics on children living in poverty (as many as 91,000 in Ireland). He then showed us a small television advertisement on Barnardos. Afterwards we were shown a pie chart of how much funding Barnardos receives, i.e. 40% fundraising and 60% Government.

He finally concluded his presentation with how we could help raise money for Barnardos and any questions the year had. (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of photo. ))
