TY Law Week includes visit to the Criminal Courts

During the last week of last term (17th - 21st December), the TY class enjoyed an array of legal experiences as part of Law Week. Ruth Somers describes a visit from a barrister to prepare them for their visit to the Criminal Courts where they experienced a mock trial.

The Barrister Visit

We talked about all the various things lawyers do. The visiting Barrister, Jadel Naidoo BL, was in the sector of employment law. We also did a mock trial with him, preparing for our trip to the Criminal Courts. He was very pleasant and informative.

The Visit to the Criminal Courts

On Thursday, 20th December, we went to the Criminal Courts to do a mock trial. We each took various roles in a typical court case. I was a witness for the defence. It was really interesting to see what it would be like to be a barrister or another person working in the courts.
