On Wednesday, 23rd November, two Stratford College students were among 28 students from around the country, to undertake the Green School Ambassadors training programme. What an honour to have two students from one school.

At our last Green School committee meeting, 30th November Oonagh and Senan reported back to the committee on their Ambassador Programme training day.

On 23rd November Oonagh (3rd) and Senan (1st) attended the Dublin Ambassador Programme in the Radisson Blu. There were 28 students attending. Students had travelled from a number of counties to attend the day.

As you can see from the programme, it was an extremely informative day full of practical suggestions on how each one of us can make a difference to conserving water. It is remarkable to have two students from one school chosen as Ambassadors by An Taisce. Both Oonagh and Senan engaged fully with all aspects of the day and the three of us felt that the trip to Ringsend Wastewater Treatment plant was the highlight.

There were a number of harrowing statistics shared on the day. The one which stood out most for me was that by the year 2050, if we don’t change our habits there will be more plastic in the world’s oceans than fish. Please don’t simply read this blog and move on - make one REAL change today

  • Turn off the tap while you wash your teeth.
  • Leave a litre bottle of water in the fridge so you don’t waste water running the tap for cold water.
  • Collect rainwater and use it to water your plants etc.

The committee watched this video at our last meeting and it created an interesting discussion – now we need to act on it.

With thanks, Ms. Donohoe
