Stratford Past Pupils Look Back: Dena Caplin

Stratford College
NEWS / 1 June 2016

Dena Caplin, Midwife, contributed her memories of Stratford for the 60th Anniversary book, '60 Years A Growing', which was launched in November 2014.

I spent all of my school years in Stratford, from my very first day in Primary School as a young child to my very last day in Secondary School as a mature adult. This is not surprising as my parents Sharlette and Adrian Caplin had been pupils at Stratford too, as well as my brother Lee and my sister Michelle. What I found interesting was that some of the teachers who taught me also taught my parents.

While I was a pupil in Stratford College I was privileged to be asked to represent Ireland in Israel at the Chidon HaTanach 'International Bible Quiz' for Israel's 60th birthday in 2008. I have always been very proud to be Jewish and believe so much in the importance of education and therefore chose to do Hebrew Studies (Biblical Hebrew) as a subject in my Leaving Certificate. This made me feel so proud and motivated me to excel in this subject. I enjoyed every moment of the learning and truly succeeded thanks to my teacher Mrs Judy Charry who always made her classes so interesting.

I graduated from Stratford Secondary School in 2009 and I went to study in Trinity College Dublin where I completed a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. To date I have delivered 40 babies in the Rotunda Hospital Dublin. I made Aliyah (moved to Israel) in the Summer of 2014. This was a dream come true and I am so excited to see what the future has in store for me. I wish Stratford College a very happy 60th birthday with many more years of continued success. Shalom.
