Ms. Finnegan presented six 5th Year students with their Bronze An Gaisce Awards at the 1st Year Assembly on Thursday, 18th April. Gabi Eppel (5th Year) gave a speech at Assembly explaining all about An Gaisce and why you should consider doing it.

"An Gaisce is the President's Award and its the most presigious award in Ireland for young people aged 15 - 25. It was set up so you could get involved with your community, to set personal goals to achieve in terms of physical recreation and personal skills, and undertake an adventure journey.

There are three awards: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The pupils who have worked towards the bronze award are actually receiving it today.

We all worked hard for the Bronze award and are so glad we are receiving it. You take part in Community Work, for example Student Council, Green Schools or Log on to Learn; develop a personal skill, for example photography, singing or cooking classes; and you take part in physical recreation, for example basketball, athletics or a running club. You 13 weeks of each and an extra 13 weeks of your choice.

We loved doing the Bronze so much that we are presently working towards the Silver award and we are going on our adventure journey at the start of June. We are all looking forward to doing it. We hope to do our Gold award as well which involves an International adventure. I would strongly encourage people to take part in the Gaisce Award in 4th Year."
