NEWS / 25 February 2015

Christina Greene, Fifth Year student and member of the Green Schools Committee, explains the purpose of donating old books from the Library to the UCD Volunteers Overseas on Monday, 23rd February.

On Monday, 23rd February, Ms. O'Kelly, Christina, Carmel (5th Years) and Alannah O'Byrne from 3rd year helped two people from UCD take books that Ms. O'Kelly was clearing from the library. Professor Mary Burke and Nadia took these books as representatives of the UCD Volunteers Overseas. Instead of these books being thrown out, they are now going to children in countries like Haiti and India to help further their education.

Thank you to everyone who comes to the meetings. We would like to see more faces as well in the Classics Room at 1:30pm on a Wednesday.

A further six boxes of books were donated to Oxfam Ireland in Rathmines on Friday, 20th March. Oxfam Ireland recycles these books and any monies raised by Oxfam Ireland helps to save lives around the world. For example the sale of a jumper for €9 could pay for a mosquito net to protect a family threatened with malaria.
